Gianni Riotta, journalist and writer, is the Pirelli chair Visiting Professor at Princeton University French and Italian Department. He teaches also at the School of Government, LUISS University, Rome, focusing on digital humanities and does research at IMT, Institute for Advanced Studies, Laboratory for the Analysis of Complex Economic Systems, Lucca, working on Big Data and politics. Columnist for La Stampa, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy, he was Editor at Tg 1 Rai and Il Sole 24 Ore, Deputy Editor at La Stampa and Corriere della Sera. He was a correspondent and columnist for Corriere della Sera and L?Espresso based in New York.Gianni Riotta is a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Foreign Policy editorial board. He contributes to the BBC World Service.His op ed have been published by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Le Monde, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Guardian, El Pais, Suddeutsche Zeitung.
His books have been translated in many languages. "Prince of the Clouds", a novel, was a finalist at "Prix Medicis" in France, won the "European Florio Award 2002" in the United Kingdom and was selected by BOL.COM as "Book of The Year 2001". "Cambio di Stagione". was included in the Meridiano Mondadori Anthology of Italy''s best short stories 1900-2000. His last book is "Il web ci rende liberi?" Einaudi 2013.Foreign Policy and Prospect included Gianni Riotta in their ranking of "world 100 global thinkers".Gianni Riotta graduated in Philosophy at Università di Palermo and holds an MS at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 2011 he was awarded an Honoris Causa Degree by Archivio di Stato, Rome, for his work protecting Italian cultural heritage.Riotta is a board member of Oxfam Italia and Fondazione Memoriale Caduti per la Pace. He lives in Rome and New York.
